Energypac Power Venture Ltd.

By leveraging Bergen Engines’ advanced technology and robust support infrastructure, EPVL has effectively supported the government’s vision of expanding power generation capacity, ensuring a stable and reliable energy supply for the future.
Client: Energypac Power Venture Ltd.

Project Overview: In alignment with the Bangladesh government’s ambitious plan to more than double the nation’s power generation capacity to 38,000 MW by 2030, Energypac Power Venture Ltd. (EPVL) partnered with Bergen Engines to contribute a critical 108 MWe to the national grid through a new power plant in Chattogram.

Technological Implementation:
  • Engine Specifications: The power plant is equipped with 16 B32:40V16 liquid fuel engines, delivering a combined output of 108 MWe.

Strategic Importance: The distributed power model, with numerous smaller power stations across the country, reduces the complexities of transmission and distribution while enhancing grid stability. This approach is vital for a country like Bangladesh, where rapid urbanization and industrialization demand reliable and scalable power solutions.

Operational Execution: EPVL, an independent power producer, secured the project through a competitive bidding process facilitated by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). A power purchase agreement was signed to supply 108 MW to the national grid for a duration of 15 years. The urgency of the project required a swift operational setup, and Bergen Engines’ reciprocating engines were pivotal in meeting this tight timeline.

Key Milestones:
  • Commissioning: The power plant was successfully commissioned and commenced operations in January 2015.
  • Capacity: The plant supplies 108 MWe to Chattogram, Bangladesh’s second-largest city.
  • Efficiency: With multiple engines, the plant can run individual units at full efficiency, modulating the total power output according to grid demand.

Market Presence and Support: Bergen Engines has been active in the Bangladesh energy market since 1999, demonstrating a long-term commitment to the region. To enhance local support and service, Bergen Engines established an entity in Dhaka in 2013 and inaugurated a new service workshop in 2016.
