Bergen Engines Delivers 170MW for Remote Mining in Australia

Located 145km south of Port Hedland in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project delivers 22mtpa of high-grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate. This $3.7 billion joint venture between Fortescue’s subsidiary FMG Iron Bridge and Formosa Steel IB is a cornerstone of Australia’s mining sector and relies on Bergen Engines for its power generation needs.

Powering Remote Operations

In September 2020, Bergen Engines, together with its agent Penske Australia, committed to supplying 15 medium-speed B36:45V20 gas gensets to power the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project. These gensets are critical for providing consistent power in a remote location, ensuring smooth operations in a challenging environment.

Integrated Hybrid Energy Solutions

The B36:45V20 gensets are integrated with a 150MW solar photovoltaic farm and battery storage as part of the Pilbara Generation Project. This hybrid system, connected to Fortescue’s new Pilbara transmission network, ensures that the right amount of electricity is delivered reliably, efficiently, and in an environmentally-friendly manner.
