March 10, 2024 – The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – comprising of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland – announced the signing of a groundbreaking Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement with India. The treaty, aimed to foster a free trade area with WTO principles, promises to spur economic growth and employment opportunities for all involved.
Under the watchful eyes of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries Minister Mr. Jan Christian Vestre of Norway and Indian Commerce Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal, the treaty was ceremoniously sealed, symbolizing a shared commitment to fair and equitable trade practices.
As a Norwegian business with a respected presence in India, Bergen Engines was honored to join the celebration of this historic event held in New Delhi. Bergen Engines recently shared a development in its ongoing research toward cleaner, alternative fuels. The company has received DNV approval for its development of medium-speed engines fueled by methanol, focused on marine application. Simultaneously, Bergen Engines is working on a technology study to explore the feasibility of ammonia as a primary fuel, alongside their established portfolio of hydrogen-ready engines tailored for land-based applications.
Aligned with India’s commitment to green energy, Bergen Engines stands ready to support the nation’s transition to low-emission technologies. The company takes pride in its current contribution to India’s energy transition and more notably, its role in powering two major LNG terminals – Ennore (Indian Oil LNG Ltd.) in the South, and Dhamra (Adani Group / Total Energie) in the Eastern part of the country.
