A Year of Progress and Growth

Apprenticeship Programme with New Workshops and Increased Female Participation

| Press Releases

Bergen, Norway – Bergen Engines is excited to provide an update on the continued success and growth of our apprenticeship programme at our headquarters in Hordvikneset, Bergen. Over the past three years, our programme has flourished, and we are particularly proud of the strides we’ve made in increasing female representation in the apprenticeship programme.

Prepared to Meet the Demands of an Evolving Industry

With 35 young professionals now in the programme, we have seen an impressive 18% growth from the previous year. Importantly, there has been a 4% increase in female apprentices, reflecting our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. These talented individuals are gaining valuable hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge, positioning them for successful careers in the industry.

This year, we have enhanced our programme by introducing new workshops including courses in industrial paint, model building and production technology. These additions are designed to provide our apprentices with a comprehensive skill set, preparing them to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving industry.

“We are thrilled with the progress of our apprenticeship programme and the dedication shown by our apprentices over the past years,” said Elisabeth Stranden, Head of Human Resources, Bergen Engines AS. “The introduction of new workshops ensures that our apprentices receive the most current and relevant training, and the increase in female participation underscores our commitment to diversity and inclusion.”

Gaining Real-World Experience

Our apprenticeship programme is structured to offer a blend of practical, on-the-job training and classroom instruction. This allows them to learn from experienced professionals and gain real-world experience. The programme’s success is evident in the growth and development of our apprentices, who are making significant contributions across various departments within Bergen Engines.

As we look to the future, Bergen Engines remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of engineers. We believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce is key to driving innovation and excellence in the engineering field. We are proud of the progress we have made and are committed to continuing this momentum.

The tradition of engineering in Bergen, Norway, dates to 1855 when the original company Bergen Mekaniske Verksted (BMV) was founded. In 1946, the company built its first diesel engine and has since commissioned over 7,500 of its iconic liquid and gas fueled engines. Around half of them are still in operation today; such is the quality and reliability of a Bergen engine.
