SCROLL TO EXPLORE
Bergen Engines is a leading developer and producer of medium speed diesel and gas propulsion engines and generator sets for commercial marine applications including Cruise, Ferry and Workboat applications. Our commitment to customer satisfaction is your assurance of the highest level of quality, performance and application expertise. And our international presence provides service and maintenance support worldwide.
We offer tailor-made propulsion and energy systems based on our proven technologies for a wide range of applications such as offshore, fishing, cruise, polar research, cargo, RoPax, tugs, ferries, seismic, naval etc.
Bergen Engines builds on successful reference projects for hybrid propulsion systems in a variety of configurations, including combined mechanical and electrical propulsion systems designed to optimise fuel consumption in different operation modes.
Meeting the emission requirements
We have a long-standing commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our products, services and manufacturing activities. Our gas engines can run on natural gas or biogas, enabling ship owners to operate with minimum emission and at class-leading efficiency levels already today. We are currently running programs where we explore the possibility to run our engines on carbon free fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen, and carbon neutral fuels such as methanol.
All our liquid fuel engines are optimised for operation in combination with an SCR /Selectic Catalytic Reduction) system, resulting in a considerable reduction of NOx emissions.
Engines for cruise vessels on new Havila Kystruten route along the Norwegian coast
Havila Capella and her three sister vessels are equipped with two Bergen C26:33L6A and two C26:33L9A gas engines each. In total, a delivery of 16 powerful engines, which apply variable turbo geometry to provide an optimal response at all speeds. The liquid natural gas used in these engines reduces CO2 by 25 percent and NOX by an astonishing 90 percent.
Green solutions for three Hurtigruten vessels
A combined project between Kongsberg Maritime and Myklebust Verft will convert three Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Express vessels to hybrid operation as part of plans to cut coastal CO2 emissions by at least 25 percent. Two new, energy-efficient Bergen B33:45L6P diesel engines will propel each vessel, equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to ensure optimal emissions control and compliance with IMO.
Eco-friendly bulk carrier
The gas-powered ship – which can be fuelled using either zero CO2 emission LBG (Liquefied Biogas) or conventional LNG – is being built for the Norwegian short sea shipping company Seaworks. It will be powered by a Bergen C26:33L6P gas main engine.
Powering four new cruise vessels for Mystic Cruises
The 126m, 9,300-tonne luxury craft will join an existing trio of sister ships to bring the fleet to seven identical vessels, the first of which – World Explorer – entered service in 2019. Each vessel will be equipped with two Bergen C25:33L8P main engines and a Bergen C25:33L6P auxiliary dual generator. A hybrid propulsion system allows the Bergen engines to operate at variable speeds, maximising their efficiency for the required power and reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
New Egil Ulvan Rederi AS multi-purpose cargo vessel
Powered by a Bergen B36:45L6PG gas engine, the new vessel will trade a roundtrip route serving the Norwegian coast from Østfold to Tromsø and will among others have reefer capacity and capability to discharge feed to fish farms.
Our natural gas fuelled marine engines offer exceptionally low emissions of NOx, CO2, SOx and particulates. Innovative technologies like variable valve timing, individual cylinder pressure monitoring and variable turbo geometry ensure optimized and efficient operation.
Our Bergen medium-speed engine series is characterized by fast start and part-load capabilities, high efficiency and low operating costs. These robust and powerful propulsion and generating sets deliver reliable power for more than 25 years of operation, and availability can be further enhanced through our flexible service agreements.
Bergen engines are principally found driving alternators in power generation applications, either singularly or in multiples up to 200MW, with 300MW currently under construction. Our engines and generator sets are widely recognised by operators worldwide due to their proven technology, robust design, and low operating costs.
Bergen engines power generators for offshore oil & gas installations and on board a wide range of ocean-going vessels. Bergen engines can also be found in direct propulsion applications. From tugs and fishing vessels, to ferries, offshore supply and cruise ships, Bergen engines are a watchword for supreme quality and reliability in the marine industry.
