From the quay in Bergen, Norway, three B35:40V20AG2 gensets from Bergen Engines have been successfully loaded and dispatched, beginning their journey to Akij Resource Limited in Bangladesh.

Akij Resource Limited is a leading Bangladeshi conglomerate, comprising Magnum Steel Industries Limited, Akij Ispat Limited, and Akij Building Solutions Limited—all located in Munshiganj, central Bangladesh. The engines will form the backbone of a 28 MW captive power plant dedicated to supporting the energy-intensive operations of the steel industry.

Meeting Bangladesh’s Growing Energy Needs
As one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, Bangladesh faces a rapidly increasing demand for reliable energy to power its industries and infrastructure. Captive power plants, like the one Akij Resource Limited is establishing, play a crucial role in ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply where power stability is essential for maintaining efficiency and productivity.

The Advantages of Bergen’s Medium-Speed Engines for Industrial Power
Bergen’s medium-speed gensets are well-suited for industrial applications. With high efficiency and durability, our engines can handle the fluctuating load demands common in steel plants, optimizing fuel consumption and reducing operational costs. Additionally, their robust design ensures reliability in challenging industrial environments, helping factories maintain consistent output even during peak energy demand periods.

Contracted in August 2022, the gensets were designed with an O2 scope to meet these specific challenges. Bergen Engines’ team in Bangladesh conducted an in-depth analysis of the plant’s requirements and collaborated closely with Akij Resource Limited to develop a tailored operational framework, ensuring optimal performance and long-term reliability.

This milestone highlights Bergen Engines’ commitment to delivering innovative, reliable power solutions to meet the evolving energy demands of industries worldwide.

ABOUT BERGEN ENGINES
Bergen Engines produces medium-speed liquid and gas fueled engines and generator sets are supplied to a broad range of land-based, commercial marine, and naval applications. The Bergen name is a watchword for quality and reliability in its field. The tradition of engineering in Bergen, Norway, dates to 1855 when the original company Bergen Mekaniske Verksted (BMV) was founded. In 1946, the company built its first diesel engine and has since commissioned over 7,500 of its iconic liquid and gas fueled engines. Around half of them are still in operation today; such is the quality and reliability of a Bergen engine. Formerly Rolls-Royce Bergen Engines, on 31st December 2021, the company became part of the privately owned British engineering group, Langley Holdings plc.
